Top division Danish side SønderjyskE have revealed why they decided to end their association with former captain of the senior national team of Nigeria Ogenyi Onazi.

Onazi’s deal was terminated with six months left to run on the deal following his move to the club on a free transfer in his bid to relaunch his career. The 28 year old leaves the club after playing just two league games.

Explaining the decision, Sporting Director of the team Hans Jorgen Haysen said the decision was arrived at with the player after he told them that he doesn’t think he fits in the league properly hence want to move on.

Both parties decided to mutually terminate the deal in order to help him move on with his career which hasn’t been the same since his return from a long injury lay off while at Trabzonspor in Turkey.

There is not a finger to put on Onazi’s efforts in SønderjyskE. He has been a professional to the tips of his toes and he has fitted in well with the group with his dedication and he has also scooped out his experience to the young players on the team.

– He came with a backlog from an injury, but he has been in almost all training sessions with us, and it also became a starting place in the Sydbank Cup and a few innings in the 3F Super League. However, it did not turn out quite as he and we had hoped, and he himself has expressed that he might fit better into another league than the 3F Superliga, and he now has the opportunity to try it out.

– We thank him for his efforts in the light blue jersey and wish him all the best for the future, says Hans Jørgen Haysen in a statement on the website of the club.

It’s the third time in a role that he has now mutually terminated his contract with the other two times happening with Trabzonspor and Denizlispor.
