Leicester City Coach Rodgers Rule Ndidi Out Of Super Eagles Engagements In 2020

0

Coach of English Premier League side Leicester City Brendan Rodgers has revealed the length of time Wilfred Ndidi will spend on the sidelines following the injury he picked up in training.

Ndidi has played in the first two games of Leicester City in the English Premier League but wasn’t listed in the Carabao Cup where they suffered a 0-2 loss to Arsenal.

Prior to the game there were reports of the Nigerian suffering an injury in training and Rodgers confirmed the reports after the game and went further in explaining why it could be worst.

Rodgers said if the midfielder need surgery he will be out for twelve week but if otherwise then it will be six weeks. The confirmation all but rule him out of the Super Eagles next set of games in October.

He will also miss all of the team’s engagements in 2020 which will see them play in the AFCON 2021 qualifiers in November.

“We’re waiting to see if he needs an operation. If he does it’ll be close to 12 weeks out”, the coach said on the Nigerian.

Every Team Need A Player Like Osimhen – Napoli Goalkeeper David Ospina

0

Napoli shot stopper David Ospina says the quality of Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen is one which most teams need in their attack.

Ospina was speaking on the backdrop of Osimhen’s debut when the 21 year old proved himself as a super substitute as his introduction played a big role in the both goals scored by Napoli in the 2-0 win over Parma.

Already teammates like Dries Mertens, Hirving Lozano and even coach Gennaro Gattuso have all saluted the impact of the big money buy from Lille. Ospina has also lend his voice on the qualities of the former Wolfsburg forward.

“Osimhen? He’s a very quiet boy. We know he can give us a lot. He has great speed, great power and it’s important for us to have a player like him. Manolas and Koulibaly? Having strong defenders is important. We work hard to keep clean sheets”, he said.

Italian Football TV picked Osimhen in their team of the week after the first round of games in Italy with Zlatan Ibrahimovic of Sweden voted as his pair in attack. All eyes will be on the forward when Napoli play their second Serie A game against Genoa on Sunday.

Why Maduka Okoye Will Start In Goal For Super Eagles Against Tunisia, Côte d’Ivoire

0

Barring a last minute change of mind Sparta Rotterdam goalkeeper Maduka Okoye will start in goal for Nigeria when they take on Tunisia and later Côte d’Ivoire on the 9th and 13th of October respectively.

Owngoalnigeria.com gathered that Rohr sees the German born goalkeeper as the
real contender for the number one spot now in the hands of Francis Uzoho owing to how he performed when he replaced the shot stopper against Brazil.

Rohr confessed that he wanted to start the 21 year old in goal in the AFCON 2021 qualifiers against Benin Republic and Lesotho respectively but his coaches urged him to tread with caution.

The fact that the game is a friendly game now means he can take his hands of the break and go all out to play Okoye who is now the second choice goalkeeper of Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam.

Although he is yet to keep a game for the senior team so far, he can’t he termed as rusty as he has gotten two games under his belt for the reserve team who are also involved in their own league.

The other goalkeepers called up for the game Dele Alampasu and Matthew Yakubu will battle for the position of second choice behind the German born goalkeeper, who for now has the trust of coach Gernot Rohr.

Iheanacho Want New Role In Super Eagles Attack Not Top Striker Role

0

Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho believe he will be best utilized in the Nigerian team if he is played as the man behind the main striker in attack for the Super Eagles.

Iheanacho has been deployed as a top striker for the Nigerian team under coach Gernot Rohr mostly due to the fact that the German usually play a 4-3-3 formation.

He started off very well leading the lines for the team in the early days of Rohr with two goals in his first two games under the coach but he has since struggle to maintain that form and he is now pinning for a new role.

At Leicester City he has also been played in that position when paired with Jamie Vardy and he believe it was part of the reason why he had that turn around in form towards the end of last season.

His ability to make clever runs into the box where he finishes with aplomb still remains his strength and it means playing behind the main striker will help him make those runs unsighted.

Rohr is aware of his desire to play behind the main striker but the current set up of his team does not permit that. It remains to be seen if anything will change next month when they converge for their next round of international games in Austria where they will trade tackles with Tunisia and Côte d’Ivoire in a friendly encounter on the 9th and 13th of October respectively.

A Bit Like Chukwueze, More Like Sancho – What Newly Invited Chidera Ejuke Will Add To Super Eagles

0

Chidera Ejuke is one of six names in the Super Eagles squad called to the team for the first time ahead of their upcoming engagements in October.

He joins the likes of Matthew Yakubu, Frank Onyeka, Cyriel Dessers , Zaidu Sanusi and Samson Tijani as new players ahead of the friendly games against Tunisia and Côte d’Ivoire on the 9th and 13th of October respectively.

Owngoalnigeria.com senior editor Mohammed Mowiz Suleiman who has tracked the player since his early days in Kaduna gives a comprehensive lowdown on what the 22 year old has to offer the team.

Strength.

He goes past his markers with ease. Many say he tends to over do it at times but it’s his style. Very quick with the ball at his feet, very direct and also physical when it comes to taking tackles. If there is one area defenders hate about him it’s how he loves one on challenge.

Weakness.

Hard to term it a weakness because of how much football has evolved. However he need to add goals to his game. The last time I watched him live in a novelty game in Kaduna he scored twice. Wingers are these days seen as part of the attack of their team so scoring goals should be his major headache and yes can.

Another thing is his inability to whip in crosses. His assist tally has been badly hit by that. He loves to cut into the box and shoot rather than pick a teammate with a pass. That area of his game need adjustments.

Conclusion.

He is a bit like Samuel Chukwueze the way he goes past his opponents although he is right footed. He love to play from the left which makes him more of a strength as he is on his strong foot when he cuts in.

I also think he has that kind of confidence that many talk about in Jadon Sancho. He is very brave and takes lot of risks in the final third. My sincere hope is that he shows all of this when he get to play for the Super Eagles.

Why Rohr Picked Onyeka Over Azeez, Alampasu Ahead Of Uzoho And Ejuke Instead Of Onyekuru

0

The decision to place some regular invitees of the senior national team of Nigeria on standby in the latest Super Eagles list came as a surprise to many.

Henry Onyekuru who is enjoying a new lease of life at Monaco, Ramon Azeez who has been ever present since AFCON 2019 and goalkeeper Francis Uzoho were the notable absentees in the list.

The trio of Dele Alampasu, Frank Onyeka and Chidera Ejuke were the ones called up in place of the above mentioned players and the reason behind it has been revealed to Owngoalnigeria.com.

“ Uzoho hasn’t been active for over seven months. It will be wrong to call a goalkeeper who is working his way back to full fitness ahead of one who has been getting games. It’s a case of knowing what Uzoho can do but let’s see another who has been getting games. That’s why Alampasu was picked.

“In Latvia he has played in around six or seven games so far. That’s a step up base on where he was a year ago so he deserve to be given a look in”, a source revealed.

“ For a while now we have been searching for a back up to Wilfred Ndidi. I mean somebody with his frame and physical presence and that’s what Onyeka has. In the UEFA Champions League Qualifiers he as been the best player for his team. We have seen Azeez severally let’s see what Onyeka can do base on his performance this season”, he explained.

“ The idea to place Onyekuru on standby was a tough call but it has to be done to create space for Chidera Ejuke who did well last season and has continued with same form at his new team in Russia. When players know they are others in their position it gingers them to be at their best”, he concluded.

He is Messi, Ronaldo And Mane Of Nantes – Moses Simon Earns High Praise

0

Nigeria international Moses Simon has been compared to three players viewed by many as the best in their respective positions at their various teams.

Speaking to Owngoalnigeria.com , French journalist Olivier James said at Nantes the Nigerian does the job of about three players during games.

“ When I watch Nantes play. I really don’t know the adjective to use on Moses Simon. He is Cristiano Ronaldo when he has to, Messi when the team need something special to win games and Sadio Mane when they need energy”, he said.

“ Back here in France there’s a popular saying that when he plays well then Nantes wins. He is that respected here for what he has done in the 18 months he has been here. So much that he didn’t score in the first three games and it was big news”.

The Nigerian got his first goal of the season against St. Etienne last week and according to Olivier, he will likely score more owing to the fact that the Nantes team revolves around him.

“ It’s clear that he will score more goals. That’s not in doubt. The way the team is set up around him is a beauty to behold. He could better his last season tally of nine goals and nine assists this season”.

No Ndidi, No Problem As Newly Invited Super Eagles DM Onyeka Shines For Midtjylland In UCL Qualifiers

0

Newly invited Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka was once again the best player on the pitch for FC Midtjylland as they labor to a 0-0 draw against Sparta Praha in the UEFA Champions League Qualifiers.

In the first leg tie played in Czech Republic, Onyeka showed his class marshaling and dictating from the middle to hand his team a well deserved draw ahead of the return leg game next week.

The Nigeria U23 invitee sat as the deepest of his team midfield three and was very busy breaking up play and also initiating attack from his deep role.

In the Nigeria national team there are doubts surrounding the availability of Wilfred Ndidi for the Super Eagles game owing to a reported injury picked up at his clubside Leicester City.

If Ndidi fail to make it for the game , it is possible that coach Gernot Rohr will call one of the midfielders on standby but on the strength of his display tonight, Onyeka should without any doubt take his place.

Just like Ndidi he covers lot of grounds and also dominate aerial duels with ease with his height and physical presence giving him an edge over his opponents.
