0

United States based Nigerian coach Michael Nsien is reportedly the favourite to be handed the Super Eagles job in the event that the present coach of the team Eric Chelle leaves his post, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Chelle is locked in contract talks with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on a new deal, with one year left to run on his current deal as coach of the senior national team of Nigeria.

The coach who led Nigeria to a third place finish at the AFCON, playing an impressive brand of football is the prime target of Angola after the departure of their coach following a poor campaign at the AFCON.

Talks with Chelle isn’t going as smooth as expected, largely due to the fact that the coach switched to a new agent who is reportedly behind the offer from Angola.

Sources at the NFF say in the event that he decided to walk away from his contract, US based Nsien who was in the running before Chelle was appointed is the favourite for the job.

A former U23 international for Nigeria, he has worked in a lot of positions in America starting of with Tulsa FC where he moved from academy director role to becoming the head coach.

His job earned him a job with the U16 team of the USA from where he stepped up to the U19/20 as head coach last year. He is presently the assistant coach of Major League Soccer (MLS) side Nashville SC.

Scouts from teams in the English Premier League who were in attendance for the game between Galatasaray and Juventus left the game with a new name on their notes, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Although Osimhen got two assists in the game, it was the Brazilian who stole the show with his commanding performance in the midfield capped with the opening goal in the 5-2 win.

He was voted the man of the match, and has now found himself on the radar of teams in Europe, particularly from the English Premier League where he once had a stint in the Championship with Norwich City.

The 26 year old is valued by Galatasaray for around €30 million. A fee that teams won’t struggle to pay when he becomes available in the summer.

Head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Eric Chelle will be up for a legal battle if he goes ahead to quit the job in the wake of a fresh new offer from Angola, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Chelle is said to have been widely impressed by the latest offer from Angola, even though he still has a year to run on his current deal as coach of the Nigerian team.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are hoping he will agree to a new two year deal, although talks have stalled after he switched to a new agent only three days ago.

His former agent will seek legal redress if he goes ahead to accept the proposal from Angola, which he got while they were still working, according to French journalist Romain Molina.

NFF are however optimistic that the coach, who led the Super Eagles to a bronze medal spot at the AFCON will commit to a new deal, or see out the remaining one year.

In the event that he decides to leave by terminating his deal, they are going to demand for a compensation for the remaining one year of his deal.

Serbian side Crvena zvezda pulled one of the shocks in the Europa League yesterday with a 1-0 win away to French Ligue 1 side Lille in the round of 32 playoff.

The unfancied Serbians secured the win thanks to a goal from Nigerian defender Tebo Franklin in the first minute of time added on before the half time break.

His goal caught the attention of head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle, who has been watching the tall defender following his move in the summer from Norwegian side Sarpsborg 08.

He was voted the best defender in the Norwegian league last season, and since his move he hasn’t looked out of place in his new environment.

Tebo rose to prominence in the Nigeria Premier League playing for Nasarawa Utd, before crossing over to Swedish side BK Hacken four years ago, initially on loan before making his move permanent the next year.

At the age of 26, Chelle sees him as one of the options he will look at as a potential replacement for Semi Ajayi, who will be 33 this year.

Osimhen Lied – Ex Napoli Director Fires Back At Racism Claims

0

Former Napoli sports director Mauro Meluso says Nigeria international striker Victor Osimhen lies about being racially insulted by the club during his time with them , OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

The Galatasaray forward in an interview on Tuesday said the club disparaged him with an insultive video on their TikTok channel after his penalty miss.

He also claimed that he was racially insulted, and got no support from the club leading to his exit from the club, initially on loan before signing permanently in the summer.

Replying to claims made by the 27 year old Meluso said his claims are false, and move on state his own side of the story and what the club did after the TikTok video incident.

“Regarding the TikTok video case, I remember that Nicola Lombardo and I calmed Osimhen down, he was furious the day after the video was released. We were accused of racism, but there was absolutely no intention of targeting one of our own players, it was meant to be ironic”, he explained to Radio Napoli centrale.

“Osimhen took it very badly, but woe betide anyone who would use racist language, Napoli rejects all forms of racism. The people of the city as well, I have great respect for Neapolitan fans. I believe they are mature and understand situations, as shown by that banner.

“That TikTok video affected him deeply, also because a Nigerian government representative intervened with strong statements. It had a media and personal impact. For me, there was no intent to offend him, but someone instrumentalized the situation and certainly not his agent, (Roberto) Calenda, who was always very correct.”

Ineligible Players – Tinubu Briefed On Super Eagles Protest Against DR Congo

0

The chairman National Sports Commission (NSC) Shehu Dikko has briefed the president of the federal Republic of Nigeria President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the current protest by Nigeria against DR Congo, for fielding ineligible players against Super Eagles in the word cup qualifiers playoff tournament.

Nigeria protested that certain players in the team of DR Congo, who beat Nigeria in the final of the tournament to pick the sole ticket to represent Africa at the intercontinental playoff had dual nationality, which is against the constitution of the country.

FIFA were supposed to pass a judgement on the protest a few days ago, but there has been nothing of such. Dikko during a visit to the president at the Presidential Villa said among the things he discussed with the president was the state of the protest.

If successful, Nigeria will take the place of DR Congo in next month’s playoff in Mexico, where the two finalist will get a ticket to be at the world cup in June. If it fails it will mean Nigeria missing out on two consecutive editions of the tournament after failing to qualify for the 2022 edition.

Ineligible Player – DR Congo Accuses NFF Of Putting FIFA Under Pressure

0

The media in the Democratic Republic of Congo have accused the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) of putting undue pressure on world football governing body to rule on their behalf in the protest against them.

Nigeria protested that some players of DR Congo who defeated Nigeria in the final of the world cup qualifiers playoff tournament were ineligible to play, as they hold dual citizenship which is against the constitution of DR Congo.

FIFA was largely expected to make a pronouncement on the protest earlier this week, but a claim into allegations of a certain player submitting fake passport that was used in clearing him has delayed the verdict

In DR Congo the media believe that the pressure by the NFF on FIFA is why they have not yet thrown out the protest by Nigeria, which they feel lacks merit and substance.

They feel there is a certain strong individual obstructing FIFA from throwing away the protest by Nigeria, or making a definite pronouncement on the case.

A chieftain of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says agent of top European coaches have reached out to the football body on the possibility of taking over as coach of the Super Eagles in the event that Eric Chelle leaves, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Chelle is having contract extension talks with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), but there has not been any major breakthrough with the demands of the coach deemed as excessive.

Although Chelle still has a year to run on his deal, the NFF in conjunction with the National Sports Commission (NSC) decided to hand him fresh terms despite not meeting the target of reaching the final of the recently concluded AFCON, where they finished second.

On his part, the coach is looking for other options and was in the frame for the job of the coach of Marseille, which was handed to Habib Beye. Reports say he has been proposed to another Ligue 1 side in Nantes.

Angola have also been linked with a move for his service and with all the speculation around his future, agents of coaches have started sounding out the NFF on the availability of their clients in the event of his departure.

A top source at the NFF says agents have already started sending their client’s resume to the NFF, and in the event that Chelle leaves they won’t have a problem picking his replacement.
