Rohr Explains When German Nigerian Defenders Torunarigha, Uduokhai Will Likely Switch To Nigeria, Rules Out Akpoguma

0

The chances of Nigeria luring the German Nigerian duo of Jordan Torunarigha and Felix Uduokhai has been explained by coach of the senior national team of Nigeria, Gernot Rohr.

The duo of Torunarigha and Uduokhai who are players for Hertha Berlin and Augsburg respectively in the German Bundesliga have been on the radar of the coach for some times now .

Both players have already had talks over the possibility of switching to Nigeria from Germany but they insisted on more time before making a decision particularly Uduokhai.

Uduokhai is the main target of the coach for the fact that he will bring something different as he is a left footed central defender and also he is more open to a switch than Torunarigha.

Already the coach has ruled out making a move for Hoffenheim defender Kevin Akpoguma with the defender saying he feels more German than Nigerian despite his father wanting him to play for Nigeria.

“At first I want to tell you. I have never begged any player to play for Nigeria. This decision must be done by the players themselves. Like we have Cyriel Dessers in our last list”, Rohr told Colin Udoh in an Instagram live interview monitored by owngoalnigeria.com.

“The players in Germany you spoke about Torunarigha and Uduokhai. These ones they are playing already for Germany U23. Especially Uduokhai and they have qualified for the Olympics so Felix want to play in the Olympics for Germany. So I can understand it.

“You can not chose the best players if they play already for another country. They must give us a sign if they want to play with us. I met Akpoguma and his father want him to play for Nigeria but the boy said he is born in Germany and feels more German than Nigerian. I can’t do anything about that”, he concluded.

He said he is committed to picking only the best players but most times they are off to Europe few months after being called up to the team.

“ I usually pick the best ones but when I pick the best one . Two months later the agent sell them to Europe, so you know there’s a big commercial interest for some people to bring the local players into the Super Eagles then it easy to sell but we are not here for that but we are not here for that.
