EXCLUSIVE: Ex Under-17 Trainee Okoli Joins Top Portuguese side Vitoria de Setubal

A member of the 2015 Nigeria U-17 team who later missed out on selection to the World Cup, Tochukwu Okoli has joined Portuguese side Vitoria de Setubal, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

18 year old Okoli joins FC Porto loanee Mikel Agu, at the club where Nigeria soccer legend Rashidi Yekini is still highly regarded as one of their greatest ever player.

Okoli spotted at the Gee-Lec annual football tournament arrived Portugal last week, and has already started training with the B team of the Primeira Liga side.

The skillful and energetic midfielder is full of tricks and has a very good pass completion rate aside his shooting abilities, which made him standout during the Gee-Lec scouting tournament.

European Champions Real Madrid survived a late rally from Chelsea to edge the English side 3-2 in one of the games of the International Champions Cup pre season friendly tournament.

Real Madrid took the lead in the 19th minute through Brazilian left full back Marcelo, whose shot went past Asmir Begovic in Chelsea’s goal for the opener.

Highly rated Nigerian teen Ola Aina, who has been earning high praises for his performances in the games he has played for Chelsea in their pre season tour, gave away possession cheaply in the 26th minute which gifted Marcelo his and Madrid’s second goal of the game.

Aina had a first half to forget like his other Chelsea teammates, and they were trailing 3-0 until the introduction of Nigerian winger Victor Moses changed the complexion of the game with 15 minutes left to play.

Moses brought about an injection of pace into the front line of Chelsea and immediately put Real Madrid on the back foot. Moses won fouls and played a big part in helping the Blues reduced the deficit from 3-0 to 3-2.

His performance could see him upstage both Pedro and Juan Cuadrado in the first team of Chelsea after the duo failed to justify the starting role handed to them by the manager.

Through official channel, Latvian side FK Liepaja have announced the signing of Ubong Francis who last played for Nigeria Professional League side, Akwa United.

Francis was today unveiled alongside 25 year old Croatian defender Dino Kluki as the recent acquisition of the club to bolster their backline, with the Nigerian given the jersey number six shirt at the club.

As part of his unveiling, the club also announced that Francis is signed on to a year deal, with the option of another year if he impresses the technical crew of the side that finished third in the Latvian League.

He reportedly had trials with other teams in Latvia before settling for Liepaja where he could make his league debut tomorrow against RFS.

Super Eagles defender Efe Ambrose had a night to forget for Celtic against Barcelona in a pre season game after scoring an own goal in their 1-3 loss to the Spanish champions.

Ambrose stretched to cut out a cross from Barcelona in the 31st minute, but ended up turning the ball past his own goal kepper to help Barcelona regain their lead shortly after Celtic drew level.

The own goal made fans of Celtic who have been critical of the Nigerian the last one year to result to booing the defender until he was replaced in the 63rd minute by manager Brendan Rodgers.

He wasn’t offered a contract extension by the Belgian side after the expiration of his two year deal at the end of last season, forcing the Aspire Academy 2013 pick to try his luck in Lithuania.

Wakili was today unveiled as a player of Lithuania top division side Trakai, and was subsequently handed jersey number 22 by the team that finished second in the league last season .

Reacting to his failed stint in Belgium with Eupen, the defender explained injuries were the reasons why he made just three appearances during his stay with the second division Belgian side.

Nsofor’s career has nosedived since moving to Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow after a loan spell with West Ham from Inter Milan of Italy. In the three years he spent with the Russians he only made 46 appearances in the league with only three goals to his name.
