Super Eagles Midfielder Taste First Defeat With English Side

Frank Onyeka who has been a revelation for English Championship side Coventry City tasted defeat for the first time with the promotion hopeful after a 1-2 loss against Southampton, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Onyeka moved to the team in the January transfer window and has played in six games before today’s game which ended in a defeat for his team. He was on the pitch for 78 minutes for the Frank Lampard led side.

His loan will be till the end of the season , but there is an option for Coventry to sign him permanently if they secure promotion to the English Premier League.

They are still eight points clear as leaders and, nine points clear of third placed Ipswich Town with the top two guarantee automatic promotion to the English Premier League, although the teams behind them are yet to play as at the time of this report.

Coventry City will most likely seal promotion if they win their next six games, and it will immediately lead to the permanent signing of Onyeka who has been a delight for the Frank Lampard led team.

Head coach of Sevilla Matías Almeyda has warned LaLiga defending champions about the threat of Nigeria international striker Jerome Akor Adams ahead of this weekend clash, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo has finally decided to pledge his international future to Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Tosin has been on the radar of the Super Eagles since 2018 but has constantly refused to commit to the team, hoping for a chance to the senior national team of England where he was a youth international.

New Super Eagles Goalkeeper Celebrates 11th Clean Sheet Of The Season

Freshly invited Nigeria international goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo picked up his 11th clean sheet of the season in the English Championship for Wrexham in their 2-0 win over Swansea City yesterday.

The win further cemented their playoff spot and well on courses to gain promotion to the English Premier League. Okonkwo was voted the player of the match after the game.

Okonkwo who represented England from U15 to U18 level has already agreed to play for the senior national team of Nigeria, after talks with head coach of the Nigerian team Eric Chelle.

He is expected to be in the team for the upcoming friendly games later this month, but his participation in the game is dependent on the English FA formally writing to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to formalise the switch.

Despite the delay Chelle will still include the 24 year old in his team to begin the process of his integration into the team, where he is seen as someone who will bring competition to the other goalkeepers in the team.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is waiting for the English FA to ratify the switch of nationality of goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo from England to Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

The letter from the English FA is the final step required to free him to play for Nigeria, after representing England from U-15 to U-18 levels with 12 games under his belt.

Okonkwo who picked his 10th clean sheet yesterday in the English Championship for Wrexham in their 2-0 win over Swansea City has already accepted to play for Nigeria, after talks with head coach Eric Chelle.

He has been very pivotal to Wrexham, who are eyeing promotion to the English Premier League and are currently 6th which guarantees a spot in the promotion playoff at the end of the season.

Chelle is keen to have the former Arsenal goalkeeper in his ranks and held talks with him in the summer. Okonkwo is in the list of players called up to the senior national team of Nigeria for their upcoming friendly games in March.

Head coach of English Premier League side Leeds United Daniel Farke has revealed that Nigerian defender Leonard Ngenge who was signed in the January transfer window from Remo Stars has a chance of playing for the first team.

Ngenge who played for the B team of the senior national team of Nigeria at the CHAN tournament is on a six months loan deal at the club, who have the option of making the deal permanent in the summer.

The 18 year old is currently with the U21 team, where his performances will be monitored for a possible promotion to the first team, but Farke say they are not in a hurry to see him team up with them, even though he stands a chance of playing for the first team like every other player on their books.

“Everyone who signs a contract for us, for Leeds United, also has the chance to be involved”, Farke told a press conference when he was asked if Ngenge will be around the first-team any time soon.

“But that is up to the performances on the youth level and to impress in the games there, to impress in the training.

“And if you get the chance to get involved in the team training, then you have got a chance.

“But this is also a signing for our Under-21s.

“So there is no intention that we are greedy to involve him as soon as possible, it is more like a natural progress.

“He will be with our youth, we will give him time to adapt and it is not the plan to rush anything with him.”
