No Automatic Super Eagles Shirt For Tosin After Committing To Nigeria

Tosin Adarabioyo won’t be handed an automatic shirt in the senior national team of Nigeria after deciding to pursue his international career with the Super Eagles, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

A long term target of the Nigerian team, the former England youth international has maintained that his dream is to make the step up to the senior national team of England, but he suggested a change of mind during an interview with Tribuna on Saturday.

He said sequel to his visit to Nigeria in the summer, he followed the team at the AFCON and after his experience with England at various youth levels he is now looking forward to representing Nigeria at senior level, and said it will be a great honour to dorn the green white green of Nigeria.

“I have been through the English youth national teams. I was born in London, but I also feel very connected to my Nigerian roots. Last summer I spent my vacation in Nigeria, it’s a wonderful country with a fascinating culture. I followed the Nigerian national team intensively at the last Africa Cup of Nations, they have a fantastic team. It would be a great honour for me to wear the green jersey, but currently my focus is entirely on my goals with Chelsea FC”, he was quoted as saying by Tribuna.

Following his declaration, a member of the technical crew of Eric Chelle in an exclusive chat said the 28 year old will no doubt be a positive addition, but he won’t be an automatic shirt.

” Like every other player he has to fight for a shirt. Chelle showed it when he dropped the former captain William Troost-Ekong for Benjamin Fredrick. It’s about who works the header and fits the team’s dynamics not big name”, he said.

” However I must say Tosin’s experience at club level will no doubt give him an edge. He has been at the top since he was 18 and that’s the kind of player you want in your team”.

Chelle Spring Three Suprises In Super Eagles List For March Friendlies

Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle has submitted the list of invited players for the upcoming four team invitational tournament to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

The tournament initially billed to take place in Jordan has been moved to Turkey due to the uprising in the Middle East. It will feature Jordan, Iran, Costa Rica and Nigeria.

Chelle who led the team to a third place finish at the AFCON in January pulled three major surprises in the list according to sources close to the coach, and also at the NFF.

” There are three huge surprise and it will be made public in the next 48 hours”, a top source at the NFF exclusively revealed.

” It’s the second phase of the game project of Chelle so some surprise names were included. Young players who are doing very well and will likely be the future of the team”, a close associate of the coach said.

Super Eagles will open their campaign at the tournament against Iran on the 27th of March, while Jordan take on Costa Rica in the tournament’s other game.

Per the organiser, the final round of games will be played on the 31st of March, with Nigeria up against Jordan while Iran square up with Costa Rica.

Official – FIFA Sanction DR Congo, Super Eagles Over World Cup Playoff

World football governing body FIFA has slammed a fine on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Federation of DR Congo for a breach of other in the world cup qualifiers playoff in November, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

While Nigerians are waiting for the ruling on their petition against DR Congo for fielding ineligible players in the 3-4 penalty defeat, FIFA stayed silent on it but went ahead with a charge of infraction against both teams during the game.

According to FIFA’s latest disciplinary overview released for the World Cup qualifiers, both the NFF and the Congolese FA were found guilty of separate infractions during the match played on November 16, 2025.

FIFA stated that Nigeria was penalised for a breach relating to order and security at matches, specifically involving the throwing of objects by spectators under Article 17 and Article 17.2.b of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, and the NFF was consequently fined 1,000 Swiss francs.

On their part, the DR Congo federation received a heavier sanction after supporters were found to have used laser pointers or similar electronic devices during the match. The act contravenes Article 17.2.d of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, leading FIFA to impose a 5,000 Swiss francs fine on the Congolese body.

Turkey To Host Super Eagles, Iran, Jordan, Costa Rica In Four Team Friendly

The planned four team friendly tournament that has been scheduled for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Jordan has been moved to Turkey, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

There were doubts if the tournament will hold due to the escalation of the war in the Middle East, an announcement from the Jordan FA confirmed that it will still go ahead but in Turkey rather than the city of Amman in Jordan

“The Jordan Football Association has decided to move the matches of the four-team international friendly tournament, scheduled for March 2026, to be held in the Turkish city of Antalya, due to the current situation in the region and the limited movement of people,” the JFA announced on its official website.

Nigeria who won’t be at the world cup will use the tournament to begin the second phase of the rebuild of the team under Eric Chelle, who led the team to a third place finish at the AFCON in January.

They will open their campaign at the tournament against Iran on the 27th of March, while Jordan take on Costa Rica in the tournament’s other game.

Super Eagles Midfielder Taste First Defeat With English Side

Frank Onyeka who has been a revelation for English Championship side Coventry City tasted defeat for the first time with the promotion hopeful after a 1-2 loss against Southampton, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Head coach of Sevilla Matías Almeyda has warned LaLiga defending champions about the threat of Nigeria international striker Jerome Akor Adams ahead of this weekend clash, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

New Super Eagles Goalkeeper Celebrates 11th Clean Sheet Of The Season

Freshly invited Nigeria international goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo picked up his 11th clean sheet of the season in the English Championship for Wrexham in their 2-0 win over Swansea City yesterday.

The win further cemented their playoff spot and well on courses to gain promotion to the English Premier League. Okonkwo was voted the player of the match after the game.

Okonkwo who represented England from U15 to U18 level has already agreed to play for the senior national team of Nigeria, after talks with head coach of the Nigerian team Eric Chelle.

NFF Waiting On English FA To Clear 24 Year Old To Play For Super Eagles

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is waiting for the English FA to ratify the switch of nationality of goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo from England to Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

The letter from the English FA is the final step required to free him to play for Nigeria, after representing England from U-15 to U-18 levels with 12 games under his belt.

Okonkwo who picked his 10th clean sheet yesterday in the English Championship for Wrexham in their 2-0 win over Swansea City has already accepted to play for Nigeria, after talks with head coach Eric Chelle.

He has been very pivotal to Wrexham, who are eyeing promotion to the English Premier League and are currently 6th which guarantees a spot in the promotion playoff at the end of the season.

Chelle is keen to have the former Arsenal goalkeeper in his ranks and held talks with him in the summer. Okonkwo is in the list of players called up to the senior national team of Nigeria for their upcoming friendly games in March.

Turkish giants Besiktas have invited young Nigerian left back Kehinde Moses for trials after his impressive performance in front of their scouts in Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Reports in Turkey say the left back has already arrived in Turkey, and will be assessed by the coaches of Besiktas in view of a permanent signing in the summer transfer window.
